Human Systems Integration Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Human Systems Integration Specialist with demonstrated experience in Navy environments and a deep understanding of Navy operational culture and expectations. This role is critical to advancing human-machine integration and optimizing organizational performance in advanced combat and navigation systems. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge in human factors, decision-making, ergonomic design, and training, with a proven ability to deliver solutions in complex, guideline-scarce settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operating systems and training requirements to enhance human-system interfaces, particularly in Navy operational contexts.

  • Integrate human factors considerations-including workload, reliability, communication, and ergonomics-into hardware and software systems through rigorous testing, validation, and iterative design.

  • Conduct research and analysis to evaluate and recommend improvements in equipment design, procedures, manpower, and training, utilizing direct observation, surveys, and advanced data collection methods.

  • Apply quantitative modeling and analysis to forecast human behaviors, organizational processes, and group dynamics within Navy environments.

  • Prepare and deliver expert-level reports and presentations summarizing human systems integration and human factors assessments for Navy leadership and stakeholders.

  • Advise on the application of ISO ergonomic standards for control centers and human-machine interfaces, especially in process automation and operational systems.

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and operational teams to optimize usability, safety, and performance in Navy-specific settings.

  • Brief senior leadership and cross-functional teams on findings and strategic recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Organizational/Industrial Psychology, Human Systems Integration, Human Factors, or a related field; OR
  • Master’s degree with substantial relevant expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience working within Navy environments, with familiarity of Navy operational culture and expectations.
  • Advanced knowledge of human factors engineering principles, including mental workload, decision-making, human reliability, and crew resource management.
  • Experience designing and assessing user interfaces for advanced, automated, or autonomous systems.
  • Familiarity with the International Standard of Organization (ISO) standards for ergonomic design of control centers and human-machine interfaces.
  • Proficiency in advanced computer analysis tools and quantitative modeling (e.g., MATLAB, Python, SPSS).
  • Strong communication and briefing skills, with a proven ability to present complex findings to Navy leadership and technical audiences.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyze training methodologies, and recommend evidence-based solutions tailored to Navy operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

  • Experience in defense, aviation, or other high-stakes operational environments.

  • Publications or presentations in human factors or ergonomics fields.
